Colonnella is one of the most beautiful towns in Val Vibrata, the last strip of Abruzzo to the north. Of medieval origin, it stands on a high hill that unites the Adriatic Sea and the highest peaks of the Apennines in a warm and spectacular embrace. It is here that Cantina Colonnella was born from the initiative of a small group of winemakers in 1971, a company that today can boast over 300 hectares of vineyards and a production of 35,000 hectoliters. The vineyards of Cantina Colonnella adorn the gentle slopes of the hills of Teramano, a strong point in the production area of the most famous grape of Abruzzo, Montepulciano. In addition to the Montepulciano vine, Trebbiano, Passerina and Malvasia are cultivated according to the traditional espalier and awning systems; more recently the red grape varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Nero and the white grape varieties of Chardonnay and Pecorino have been planted.
