The Aljano estate lies on the soft hills of Reggio Emilia and has its roots in distant centuries: here the vine is passion and wine a centuries-old art. In this land of great agricultural vocation, known since the year 1000, the vineyards of His Serene Highness, the Duke of Modena and Reggio extended. The fertility of the lands of Jano, Figno and Montericco has been known since the Middle Ages for the abundance of «formento, formentone, broad bean, mestura, spalta, chestnuts, chestnut flour»; of no less importance the presence of figs, moors, olive trees, fruit trees and vineyards. The farmers were obliged to plant at least half a vineyard biolca every year [ ut habeatur maior boni vini copia ] to have a greater quantity of good wines ». Today this ancient territory gives life to a new dream that has already granted valuable results.
